NEXT GEN Defense Lawyer Training is a FREE TDLA webinar series of 9 short virtual CLE programs running over a 12 month period, with each webinar addressing a different aspect of the defense of a civil case, especially designed for TDLA young lawyers. A TDLA member will educate on the topic and end with an open group discussion.
Attorney Tom Shumate with Meridian Law will present the NEXT GEN Training Webinar for March. It will be presented on Friday March 31 at Noon CST/ 1 pm EST. The title is "Strategies and Tips for Responding to the Complaint". When your client is sued, it is important to respond to the Complaint in a timely and strategic manner. This presentation will discuss the various ways to respond to the Complaint and when each method can be the most effective. We will discuss how to draft effective Answers to the Complaint and the importance of not waiving your affirmative defenses. We will discuss when and how to use Motions to Dismiss to increase your chances of obtaining a dismissal and streamlining the claims in the case. We will also discuss when to file a Motion for Judgment on the pleadings and how to remove a case to federal court.
